Putting the citizen in the driver's seat

While I welcome every improvement for citizens to participate in Europe, the fundamentals of participation are found in democracy. We urgently need to create clearly democratic structures that put the citizen not the "elites" in the driver's seat of Europe.

What further or enhanced democratic structures do you suggest?
We elect our MEPs to represent us at the European Parliament.
Our Governmental Ministers represent our interests at the European Council.
These bodies share legislative and budgetary powers for the EU.
Who are the elites, if not our elected representatives?
Actually the Treaty of Lisbon gives almost all power to elected Parliament instead of unelected commission as it is today.

Unelected commissioners.
i do not see why the commissioners have to be elected by the public....yes the MEPs and the president should....the commission have a certain role, or should have a certain role to make sure that member states follow the legislation,and even propose legislation...but nothing more..the commission should represent EU or european citizents in agreements or meetings with third countries or parties....but since we do not have a president,who else can...??
..right now the europarliament is weak,because the euro-sceptics are refusing to give more power to it...thus giving more power to the commission and the council...and so making EU more undemocratic,because the people have little say in it....when the euro-parliament gets the power that it has to have , then EU will be democratic..but many do not want that ,in fear of loss of soverneighty...then they accuse EU for not being democratic.....odd or what....?? they create the very thing they accuse EU for.....
correction to the above...: the commission should NOT represent EU or it's citizents......but the president of EU (if we ever get any)....apologies.
The Elite are the unseen controllers, rich and powerful Patriarchal people, whose aim is total control.
