Lisbon Treaty

The European elite in Brussels need to recreate a democratic and fair treaty rather than the dreadful treaty that was presented to the Irish people. We can grow in strength together as a single union although this must be done with the support and say of the people of Europe and not the elite in Brussels or parliament. Every European citizen deserves a vote in this issue parallel to be told the truth. The European Union and members need to be honest and respect the people of Europe.

This treaty can be proposed in a new and different light, a social, democratic light where no man is left in the dark.

Hi Ripo

while I think your views on Democracy seem credible, I am suprised that the web link is to a UK eurosceptic website.

in an ideal world yes it might seem good that all EU citizens would have to vote on the Lisbon Treaty, but we must accept different national traditions as to how to adopt such Treaties. Many European countries do this via adoption in their national parliaments so we in Ireland can't dictate to them how to adopt the Lisbon Treaty. In particular, Germany does not have referenda because of their experience of such votes under Hitler & the Nazis. So possibly you may say that the Gemans are being denied democracy, but even at this moment there is a court case before the German courts on the Lisbon Treaty, so democracy is not all about voting rather it is a mixture of various checks & balances.

you say that the Lisbon Treaty is an awful treaty & should be re-written - having taken 10 years to produce & gone through a Convention etc there is no appetite amongst European politicians to begin the process of framing a new Treaty. Indeed, the Treaty is the best balance that could be agreed amongst 27 sovereign Member States each concerned in different ways to protect their national interests. I personally would have preferred a more federalist Treaty, which would be especially useful in the present financial turmoil, but alas European federaliists are in a minority in Europe/Brussels despite the ill-informed views of many eurosceptics or organisations like Libertas.

I sense the Irish people were expected to behave like sheep and not question anything from EU.

It seems the forgot our Brehon Justice System of old, still in our veins, where justice was from the bottom up and not like EU top down.

Naturally from His+Story we know this is a deliberate divide and rule game, with deliberate recession thrown in to create conflict.

10 years to produce a piece of paper with far too much common purpose nonsense in it.If that is the best they could do, then God help us.

I do have to laugh as here I am looking at files, where the Dept of Justice decided that our children were not to associate with Bloody Europeans, and we had to ask children if they were Catholic before attending our chilld's birthday party.

What an embarrassing moment that was with officials from Italian Embassy outside the court and the judge calling them thugs and lowlifes.

So, I see one face in the media and another secret one.

All over the net, people are waking up, knowing they are being scammed left right and centre from Dublin and EU.
