I am glad that the EU has a Charter of Fundamental Rights! by Cora, Ireland
Today is the 60th Anniversary of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Fundamental Rights. Building the European Union as a social and political entity, I am glad that the EU also has a declaration of its core values. The EU Charter of Fundamental Rights has one chapter on 'Equality before the law' and another chapter on social security and workers' rights. If we vote yes to the Lisbon Treaty the EU-Charter becomes legally binding. A social Europe is out there, so let's go for it!
