I would like to propose a Erasmus type scheme to be made available to citizens of all ages, citizens who do not attend third level but who are studying in the university of life.
Young people in employment, women working full time in the home, the elderly, unemployed people, anyone basically who is curious about how the world around them works today but who may not have had the opportunity or time to find out.
The scheme could be built around a citizenship type course which might cover how government works here, how it fits with the EU, how the EU relates to you and me- how policy is worked out and decisions are made, and the difference it all makes to our lives etc...
An opportunity to travel to Brussels to see how the place works, to meet other regular interested people from other countries doing similar citizenship courses, would make it all more real, tangible, interesting, even exciting.
