While the rate of development and economic power is not surprisingly disparate between Eastern and Western states of Europe, I would like to see a debate on how our constitution can normalize gender equality, access to education for all and employment rights across the EU. The basic rights of individuals is sanctified in the charter of human rights, I would like to see this taken a step further where the next level of needs, and rights, are ensured in all EU countries.
I am thinking specifically of gender equality in the work place, women's right to work, equal pay for equal work and subsidised childcare facilities. Some EU countries have made more substantial advances in this area than others. In this I would also see a need for a common EU responsibility towards children and young people, with an equitable standard of education and employment opportunities for all.
